Launching Adopt-Your-Block
Published: June 08, 2009
Your community association is excited to announce a new program in our neighbourhoods called Adopt-Your-Block.
Here’s how it works. You agree to help keep your block clean, then we supply you with gloves and garbage bags and send you on your way. We also have a limited number of blue boxes and grabbers. We are hoping enough people will sign on that it will make a difference in the appearance of our community and keep our neighbourhood relatively garbage free. Within 24 hours of the program’s launch on May 14, six volunteers came forward, and by the end of May we had 15 volunteers.
I am happy to tell you that two of our volunteers are children. What a great way to raise the awareness of children about the importance of picking up litter. In Grade 7, our school spent one morning cleaning the neighbourhood. It was life changing for me. I never dropped a piece of garbage again. Before that day, I never had seen the garbage!
Please consider being part of this exciting new program, by joining us in the “greening” of the community we call home. With a little bit of effort and some exercise, we can keep our streets clean and beautify our neighbourhood for everyone.
Contact AWWCA board member and student liaison Shelli Eisenberg at 905-527-2644 or eisenberg@sympatico.ca to sign on and get equipped.
